Team Cebu City nips USC in Aboitiz Men's Open

-
Team Cebu City nipped University of San Carlos, 3-2, to lead the winners yesterday in the 2007 10th Aboitiz CebuFa Men's Cup (Division 2) at the San Roque field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Jerson Omnos proved to be unstoppable as he nailed in all the three goals to silence USC.

Omnos sneaked in the 7thm 10th and 24th minutes of the game to steer Team Cebu City to victory while USC leaned on Kyle Soriano (6th) and Jacob Canada (37th).

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Football Club blanked the University of the Philippines-Alumni, 4-0, in Group C.

Danilo Juesan started the fire for Metropilitan as he banged in the 30th of the game and he was followed by Ken Villanueva and Rene Inoc, who logged their goals at the 54th and 69th, respectively.

Metropolitan sealed the game with Jonathan Alino hitting the net at the 83rd to complete the 4-0 shutout.

Also, Uptown United FC dumped Football Club Inter Lapu-lapu (FCIL), 4-0, with Jaymart Cabanesas making two goals.

It was Edgar Quitor, who made the first goal at the 20th and was followed by Cabanesas at the 30th to make the lead, 2-0.

Miguel Bargamento and Cabanesas made the last two shots in 82nd and 88th, respectively, to end the game at 4-0.

On the other hand, Queen City United FC thrashed Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST), 3-1.

Richard Montayre (31st) and Peter Bordador (66th and 90th) took the cudgels for Queen City United while Jose Rey Rojas had it in the 67th for CSCST.

The other day, PAREF Springdale passed through the eye of the needle before grabbing the title in the boys 15-under division over Abellana National School (ANS), 1-0.

The first half of the game turned-out to be the deciding point of the match as Springdale's Carlos Miguel Veloso saw a slim chance to hit at the back of the net in the 10th minute.

From there on, Springdale tightened their defense and ANS was not able to retaliate.

The win will give Springdale the ticket to represent Cebu in the Philippine Olympic Festival Visayas Finals on July or August in Antique and in the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Mens U-17 Regional Finals. - Marigold P. Lebumfacil
