Young Builders '91 and Hannah's Cakes and Decors 2004 routed separate foes to barge into the win column in the 9th Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) season on Friday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Class '91 spewed fire right from the opening buzzer to scorch the undermanned Security and Systems Monitoring Inc. '87, 70-49, while Class 2004 shrugged off a sluggish start to dispatch ACY Shipping 2006, 57-43.
Team director Kevin Co had 15 points, while Juan Borromeo, Jr and Vicente Ty III chipped in 13 and 10 markers, respectively, for Class '91 which sent Class '87 wobbling the rest of the way since racing to a hot 25-8 start.
Class '91 kept on pounding on the hapless Class '87 in the middle quarters to mount a commanding 54-30 advantage entering the final 10-minute zone of the contest. The rest was history.
Class '87 was hardly hit by the ill effects playing without its top gunner Henrich Chua. George Artus stepped up with 19 points, but his lone struggle couldn't make any difference.
Later in the night, Class 2004 trailed by four after the first period, 8-12, but countered with a 12-6 run in the second quarter to grab the lead at halftime for good, 20-18.
Class 2004 carried on its gameplan with savvy in the third quarter to stretch its lead to 37-28 before finishing off Class 2006 with a game-closing 20-15 assault for the 14-point romp.
Christian Espada showed the way for Class 2004 with 18 points followed by Aljhune Areja with 16.
Junwynn Dy paced the debuting Class 2006 with 18 markers.
