WLC Mustangs end losing skid in VAAA caging

The West Leyte College (WLC) Mustangs needed only one homegame to end its four-game losing skid as it fashioned out an 88-78 victory over its Dumaguete visitor, ACSAT Lightning, in the Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) basketball tournament played Saturday night at the WLC gym in Ormoc City.

It was a record of some sort in VAAA as the Mustangs held the Lightning to a six-point first period count, erupting to a bulky 25-point tip off.

The Mustangs, who have four of their key players scoring in double figures, ended up their slump for a 1-4 win-loss record while the Lightning continued with their slide as dropped, 3-4.

However, the Mustangs will face an acid test in their next outing as they go up against the unbeaten Cebuano visitor University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors who led Group B with a 6-0 win-loss record.

Alvin Gallardo led the Mustangs with 22 points while Federico Bejoc and Peñalosa contributed 17 points each. Another 15 points came from Dick Adrian Ceniza.
