Sollano vies for RP crown tonight
February 3, 2007 | 12:00am
JR Sollano (11-5, 8KOs) of Rex "Wakee" Salud Stable hopes to hurdle the biggest fight in his career so far when he battles Dodie Boy Agrabio (6-3-1, 1KO) of Manila in a 12-round rumble for the vacant Philippine super featherweight championship topbilling tonight's Dalaguete boxing card at the Dalaguete Sports Complex.
Sollano and Agrabio are expected to treat the Dalagueteños to a solid night of fistic action noting that they are both undefeated in their last three fights.
The much-improved Sollano knocked out stopped Dondon Lapuz in round four to win the PBF lightweight crown on August 25 last year in Gusa Cagayan de Oro City.
That victory sandwiched Sollano's second round stoppage of Japanese Tomoya Matsuda and a smashing first round knockout of Hayato Takabayashi the last time he fought on October 8, 2005 at Osaka's IMP Hall.
Agrabio, on the other hand, pulled off victories over Elmer Saligumba and Roel Laguna by decision. Agrabio is no pushover as he has not yet been stopped in his career.
In the supporting main event of the slambang show assmebled by RWS Promotions International in partnership with the local government of Dalaguete headed by Mayor Ronald Allan G. Sesante and Vice Mayor Andrade Alcantara, former two-time PABA light flyweight champion Marvin "Leyte Bomber" Tampus will slug it out with Zamboanga City's War Bartiquel.
In the other 10-round brawl of the free-to-the-public promotion, Roel Laguna will clash with Malvin Ayudtud of Cagayan de Oro City.
The townsfolk of Dalaguete are also raring to see their hometown pride - Vergelio Silvano and Christopher Antenero - in action. Silvano will collide with Gil Castro Mayor of Cagayan de Oro City, while Antenero will trade leathers with Romart Sentillas of Mandaue City.
The rest of the preliminary bouts will feature Jimmy Siscon against Jun Jamlan and RH George opposite Jimbert Lamoste.
Co-sponsored by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Dalaguete, the seven-bout extravaganza is among the highlights of Dalaguete's upcoming town fiesta in honor of their beloved patron, St. William of Aquitaine.
