Law students see action in 'Atan Guardo Cup'

It's all systems go for the annual sports of the Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP)-Cebu dubbed as "Atan Guardo Cup" this Sunday the University of San Carlos- Main Gym.
A total of five teams led by this year's host, the University of San Carlos, have already signified their intent to participate in the two-month tilt.
The rest of the competitors are the University of the Visayas, Southwestern University, University of San Jose-Recoletos and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
The University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, and the Baristers, on the other hand, have yet to confirm their entry.
Among the events to be contested are basketball, volleyball and badminton. All games will be played at the USC-Main gym.
The ALSP-Cebu is a federation of more than 60 law student councils/governments/ organizations all over the country.
Established in 1989, ALSP is recognized by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) as its official counterpart and duly accredited by the Office of the President (OP) through the National Youth Commission (NYC) as a legitimate national youth organization.
USC Lex Circle Minister of Sports Rovelson Velmonte, said the ALSP traces its beginnings to the series of informal meetings among law students, who agreed to form network that will coordinate and support each other in both academic and non-academic endeavors.
The tournament will kick off with a simple opening rites at 1 pm highlighted be the selection of Miss ALSP-Cebu Guardo Cup 2007.
Basketball matches will follow, with USC taking on UV in the opening game. IBP battles USJ-R in the main match.
In volleyball, SWU takes on UV, while the badminton action pits USC against UV in the women's division, while IBP takes on USC and SWU in the men's bracket.
