A total of seven teams have so far confirmed their participation in the 1st M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF) All Ladies Beach Volleyball Invitational (2-A-Side) Tournament set from February 10-11 at the Wiggy's Beach Resort in Lilo-an, Cebu.
This was made known during the organizational meeting called on by event organizer and MLSDF executive director Eddie Ybañez the other night at Family Choice Restaurant.
Among the coaches who signified their entry to the two-day contest were Thelma P. Datig of Southwestern University, Grace M. Antigua of the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Raffy Briones of the University of the Visayas, Norvie Labuga of the University of San Carlos, Jordan Paca of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Mechell Matuguina of JMM and Kenneth Cinco of Hiroshi.
During the meeting, the group unanimously agreed to have the event sanctioned by the Cebu Volleyball Association under the leadership of Glen Anthony Soco considering that CEVA is in charge of all the volleyball affairs in the entire province.
"It is just appropriate to have this tournament sanctioned by CEVA because without its support, I believe we won't succeed in our efforts to further promote volleyball in Cebu," said Ybañez.
The competition follows a single round robin format in the classification round, with the top four teams advancing into the semifinals.
The top seed will clash with the second-ranked squad for the P5,000 champion's purse, while the No.3 and No.4 teams will slug it out for the third place honors.
The second placer will take home P3,000, while the third and fourth finishers will receive P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.
Registration is pegged at P500 per team. The deadline for the submission of entries is on February 6 in time for the group's final meeting at White Gold House Restaurant.
