Local bets rule Nike Jungolf tilt

Host Cebu Country Club bagged five of the titles at stake in the Nike Golf Southern Junior Classic 2006, which was concluded yesterday.

The other Cebuano team in the event, Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, bagged three titles while Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club had two and Del Monte Golf club had one.

Kathleen Paz Uy led the CCC parade with her runaway victory in the girls' 15 to 17 years old class. Uy shot rounds of 74 and 76 for a two-day total of 150 strokes. Runner-up honors went to her teammate Jyra Mae Wong with 163 (81-82).

Abby Olea was the second winner from the host club as she ruled the girls' 13 to 14 class shooting an aggregate of 162 strokes on rounds of 81 and 81. Runner-up honors went to Alta Vista's Alysha Kim with 177 (90-87).

Cebu Country Club bets also swept the titles for the 8 and under class for both the boys' and girls' divisions.

Shalesh Vasandani topped the boys' category with 84 strokes on nines of 46 and 38. Players in this age group played only nine holes per day. First runner-up was Dominique Nico Canlas of Del Monte with 87 (43-44) while second runner-up was Carl Chabon of Pueblo de Oro with 94 (49-45).

In the distaff side Lois Kaye Go scored 73 (35-38) to claim the title for CCC. Runner-up honors went to Rainstar Roque of del Monte with 89 (47-42).

The last title for the hosts came in the special division for players aged 18 to 23 years old as Bayani Garcia edged Charles Hong after the playoff holes to bag the trophy with a two-day total of 154 strokes on rounds of 85 and 69.

Hong, also of CCC, finished as 1st runner-up as he shot rounds of 73 and 81. Second runner-up honors went to Ho Se Jin of NOGCC with 169 (87-82).

The title for the boys' 15 to 17 years class went to NOGCC's Choi Kyeong Seob with a total of 148 strokes on rounds of 73 and 75. First runner-up was Alta Vista's Edsel Tan with 152 (74-78) while 2nd runner-up was Louie Mariano of del Monte with 166 (84-82).

Choi Jin Woo also of NOGCC topped the boys' 13 to 14 category with 158 (77-81) followed by teammate Chepe Dulay with 160 (83-77). Jan Michael Ybañez of CCC was the 2nd runner-up with 171 (89-82).

Gio Gandiongco of Alta Vista ruled the 11 to 12 category for boys with a total of 159 (80-79) followed by CCC bets Lloyd Jefferson Go at second with 162 (80-82) and Martin Mendoza at third with 164 (81-83).

Irina Gabasa won the second title for Alta Vista in the tournament by ruling the girls' 11 to 12 category shooting 161 on rounds of 83 and 78. runner-up honors went to Juilly Vasandani of CCC with 180 (86-94).

The last winner for Alta Vista was Misty Kim in the girls' 9 to 10 category after edging teammate Sunny Chung in the playoff. Both finished with aggregates of 182.

The title for the boys' 9 to 10 category went to del Monte's Rogelio Roque with 159 (79-80) followed by7 CCC's Gen Nagai with 164 (85-79) and del Monte's Jelbert Gamolo with 177 (84-93).

This was the fourth consecutive year of the tournament and almost 100 players from Visayas and Mindanao took part.

Also supporting the event were Fast Logistics and Stocks R' Us.
