LWCM tops CnetsBL Xmas hoop
December 21, 2006 | 12:00am
The Living Word Christian Ministries (LWCM) Aces had their outside shooting working well to pull off a 79-72 victory in come-from-behind fashion over the Sonship of Jesus Christ and win the championship of the Cebu Now Evangelizing Thru Sports Basketball League (CNetsBL) 2006 Christmas Conference last Tuesday at the IBC gym in Brgy. Banawa, this city.
While the ACES of playing coach Al Solis found their range late in the fouth period, it was former USJ-R Jaguar power forward Fritzie Gonzales who stole the show by grabbing the coveted MVP plum pinned on his 12-point performance. What mattered most was Gonzales' crucial defensive rebounds that pumped up life for LWCM-ACES in the closing minutes of the game.
Jethro Dejaño, a hefty wingman, topscored for the LWCM-ACES of Senior Pastor Mel Caparros with 13 points, most of them in the fourth period.
The Sonship of Jesus Christ took control of the game in the early going, but the ACES rallied to forge a see-saw battle in the third period.
The ACES never looked back after wresting the driver's seat in the payoff canto.
It is noteworthy to mention that to avoid his players from messing inside, Solis fielded himself in to help organize their offense.
Solis, who is the chief bench tactician of the Arthro/Skygo Tribu Sugbu, chipped in with four points plus a couple of nice assists.
Jessie Paradero, who made in to the Mythical Five along with Gonzales, Caleb Gawangon, Mating Sumampong and June de la Rama, led Sonship of Jesus Christ with 14 points.
The scores
LWCM-ACES (79) - Dejaño 13, Gonzales 12, Sayud 10, Tiro 9, Reyes 6, Cabellon 6. Caparros 6, Ty 6, Solis 4, Buenconsejo 4, Colina 3
Sonship of JC (72) - Paradero 14, Mohillo 10, Quijano 10, Lapiña 8, Jimenes 8, Sumampong 6, Aligato 6, Castillo 5, Ocao 5
