SWU grabs solo lead

-
The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras rode a fierce second half attack to devour the Foundation University (FU) Greyhounds, 75-52, and grab the solo lead in the 1st Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) men's basketball tournament the other day at the Aznar Coliseum.

The visiting Greyhounds of Dumaguete City were in the thick of things only in the first half when they led by a hairline, 34-33.

Drawing strength from the cheers of their loyal fans, the SWU Cobras countered with a 23-7 blitz to tear the game apart, 56-41, at the end of the third period.

The SWU Cobras of coach Alejandrito Miego kept on pounding on the hapless FU Greyhounds in the closing minutes of the game, 19-11, to come up with a 23-point blowout.

With the win, the SWU Cobras now hold the temporary lead in the 10-team field cagefest backed up by M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, Nature's Spring and Cokaliong Shipping with an immaculate 3-0 win-loss record.

In stark contrast, the FU Greyhounds languished at the cellar without victory in three starts.
