USPF, USC to join Elite Nike hoop camp

The University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers and the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors will field in seven players each to the Elite Nike Basketball Camp try-outs next year at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit gym.

Scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm on January 28, 2007, the try-outs will be conducted by former pro standout and revered PBA coach Eric Altamirano. A briefing of coaches will be held a day before the Nike search of potential hoop stars.

USPF secondary coach Camilo Go said he will field in his finest cagers in the likes of Francis Dysam, Norman Bordalba Jr., Rey Michael Cabatingan, Ephraim Elorde, Alfe Dionson, Lawrence Miguil Maraño and Philip Andrew Muñez.

The same foes to the Baby Warriors of coach Roland Remedio, who will tap Robert Gines Codilla, Bryan Negapatan, Dan Junior Bercede, Joules Frazier Ferrolino, Nilton John Otida, Francis Dave Omolon and Nico Magat

The other schools such as reigning CESAFI juniors champion University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters, runner-up University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J) have yet to name their players.

Around 15 to 25 aspiring hoopsters from Cebu will make it to the top 80 junior players nationwide, who will qualify for the six-day Elite Basketball Camp at the Brent International School in Mamplasan, Laguna.

The elite camp, sponsored by Nike under the International Basketball Academy (IBA), will be held from March 30 to April 4.

The deadline for the submission of entries will be on January 6.

Applicants must bring two ID pictures and all the documents that would prove he is enrolled in a particular school.

Five of the total 80 campers will be sent to the 2007 Nike All-Asian Camp, where they get a chance to be trained by NBA coaches.
