De la Hoya foresees bright future for Jaca

Boxing great and renowned promoter Oscar de la Hoya foresees a bright future for Jimrex Jaca. This despite that the Cebu-honed fighter from Sibulan, Negros Oriental was knocked out by Mexican star Juan Manuel Marquez the other day at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

"We will keep Jaca busy. Tonight, he demonstrated that he has a tremendous, tremendous heart and a bright future. He is only 23 years old and he has a lot to learn but yet he is already ahead of the game," said De la Hoya during the Marquez-Jaca post fight press conference.

De la Hoya, who described Jaca as "a strong fighter with an amazing ability to take punches," plans to insert Jaca in the undercard of his scheduled super-fight against pound-for-pound icon "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather on May 5, 2007 in Las Vegas.

"It's going to be fun promoting him and you know we will have to go back to the drawing board and see who he is going to fight next," added De la Hoya, who signed up Jaca to a controversial three-fight contract three weeks ago.

In his debut with De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, Jaca put up a gallant stand before he was caught by Marquez's devastating left hook that flattened him at full point in the ninth round during their WBO interim featherweight title bout last Sunday.
