Alex Aroy of Rex "Wakee" Salud Stable takes on Dennis Juntillano of North Cotabato for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight championship topbilling the "Handog para sa Birthday ni Mayor Damian G. Mercado" card on November 22 at the Maasin City Gym.
Sponsored by the Maasin City Sports Council headed by vice mayor Malonie Samaco, the slambang event is being held as part of the birthday celebration of Maasin City Mayor Damian G. Mercado.
Aroy, the pride of Maasin City, hopes to dazzle his hometown fans once again after scoring a stunning first round knockout of Noel Veronque on August 16 last year. Four months before that, he also stopped Rolando Toyogon in just one round in Ubay, Bohol.
The "Maasin Bomber" holds an 11-3-1 win-loss-draw record with 5KOs, while Juntillano sports a 6-3 card with 2KOs.
Juntillano won by unanimous decision over Roldan Malinao last October 21 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. He once vied for the RP minimumweight title and the PABA jr flyweight plum, but faltered in those instances.
In the undercards, Jundee Maraon of Cotabato Province slugs it out with Lee Escobedo of Butuan City, while another Maasin prospect, Jun Ferando, battles Allan Dugang of Butuan City in another other eight-rounder duel.
The preliminary bouts pit Maasin's homegrown talents Adonis Aguelo and Angelito Entia against their Cebuano counterparts Dondon Pangandoyon and Reggie Campuz, respectively.
