Surban places 8th in Asian mountainbike

Cebuano Nino Surban proved he is back into tough action as he landed into the top 10 in the 12th Asian Mountainbike Championships at Lam Vien Nui Cam, An Hao commune, Tinh Bien district, An Giang Province in Vietnam.

Surban came out eighth overall out of 30 riders in the race frontlined by Japanese and Chinese riders.

But Surban ranked first among the Southeast Asian country riders beating the three Vietnamese and Indonesians.

Fellow RP rider and adopted Cebuano, Eusebio Quinones, on the other hand, ranked 12th overall, missing to make another good impression following his golden finish in the Vietnam SEA Games in 2003.

Both Surban and Quinones beat the 23rd SEA Games gold medallist Dadi Nurcahyadi.

Surban and Quinones' ranking, incidentally were the same when they competed in the 11th AMC held in Bali, Indonesia last year.

The performance of the RP Team, according to Danao City Councilor Oscar "Boying" Rodriguez is an indication that the RP squad will get medals again in the 24th SEA Games set in Thailand next year.

On the other hand, RP downhiller Parabanne Mendoza is reportedly out of the hospital following a deep wound due to a hard fall in the downhill course.

Mendoza missed the race and had to be rushed to the hospital due to the continuous bleeding of his wound.
