Domingo fails in WBF title bid

Michael Domingo of SGG Stable faltered in his first crack at international glory as he was knocked out by hometown favorite and European champion Frederic Patrac in the ninth round in their World Boxing Foundation (WBF) bantamweight title bout yesterday at the Palais des Sports in Agde, France.

Boxing scribe Wolfgang Schiffbauer stated in his report posted on fightnews.com that "the 28-year-old Patrac put on a excellent performance as he outfought and outboxed Domingo but never seemed to hurt him."

In round nine, Patrac landed solid combinations out of nowhere to put Domingo down for good with a powerful uppercut.

Patrac improved to 20-7-1 now dotted with 11KOs, while Domingo, the reigning RP bantamweight champion, slipped to 26-15-3 (11KOs).

Curiously, it was Domingo's first defeat in nine fights since he hooked up with international promoter Sammy Gello-ani early last year.

Domingo is expected to return to Cebu today together with Gello-ani and ALA trainer Edmund Villamor.
