MLSDF-Talisay City mauls Boljoon Selection in friendly match

The M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF)-Talisay City whipped up a furious second half storm to smother Boljoon Selection, 103-79, in their exhibition match recently at the Boljoon Sports Complex.

MLSDF-Talisay City trailed by eight points at halftime, 43-51, but woke up from deep offensive slumber in third quarter where it unleashed a fierce 32-17 attack to gain an seven-point headway, 75-68, going into the final canto.

Things got even better for MLSDF-Talisay City as the veteran-laden Boljoon Selection folded up in the windup, enabling the wards of MLSDF executive director and head coach Eddie Ybañez to stage a game-closing 28-11 rally for the 24-point blowout.

Overall, MLSDF-Talisay City edged out Boljoon in second-half scoring by a wide margin, 60-28.

Jayser Esperat topscored for MLSDF-Talisay City with 18 points, while Morsie Akad and Kim Calo chipped in 32 points combined. 6-foot-7 center Rino Berame was held off to only nine points, but was monster in defense.

Michael Almonte paced the Boljoon Selection with 18 points, while Resty Getubig and Daryl Smith cashed in 17 and 13 markers, respectively, in a losing effort.

The match is part of MLSDF-Talisay City's fine-tuning in preparation for the Second Conference of the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) ML Kwarta Padala Cup.

The MVBA Second Conference already took off with the Mindanao Division action last Saturday at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City, but the Visayas swing has yet to commence on October 15 at the Cebu Coliseum.
