USC, UC share top honors in CESAFI swimming event

The University of San Carlos (USC) and University of Cebu grabbed the overall team championship title in their respective divisions in the 2006 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) swimming event yesterday at the Cebu City Aquatic Center.
The USC swim team grabbed a total of 19 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze medals to rule the tertiary division while UC reigned in the secondary division, garnering 17 gold, three silver and eight bronze medals.
Finishing second to USC in the tertiary division is UC with 17 gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals and Velez College was third with four gold and a silver. University of the Visayas (UV) was fourth with two gold, 12 silver and three bronze medals.
Taking the second place honors in the secondary division is USC with nine gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals while University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) was third with one gold, five silver and eight bronze medals. The fourth placer was UV with 10 silver and three bronze medals.
It was the women's team, which took the cudgels for USC as it ruled both the tertiary and secondary division. Its team in the tertiary division carted away 14 gold medals while the secondary group won eight gold medals.
The UC swim team, on the other hand, leaned on its men's teams as its college bets had an output of 14 gold medals and its secondary squad garnered 11 gold medals. Top Medal Winners
Paula Abigail Vega and Antonio Yana, Jr. of UC and Loren Dale Echavez of USC were the top achievers in the CESAFI 2006 swimming, each collecting five gold medals in their respective events.
Vega and Echavez shared the honors in the secondary division while Yana took the honors in the tertiary level.
The other gold medal winners in the secondary division are Jeffrey Yana of UC with four gold medals, Noel Cañeda of UC with three, Michael David Vega of UC with three and Alexander Echavez of UV, Patricia Solon of USC and John Sebastian Solon of USC with one each.
