Canasa, Gonzales sizzle in Cycling Classic

The three-part Cebu Cycling Classic concluded yesterday with Jun-jun Canasa, Rex Gonzales and team Kalit claiming their respective titles at the Mandaue City reclamation area.

Canasa topped in class B with 74 points over teammate, Ramsey Villaver, who was nowhere to be found in the third and final stage, which covered 42 kilometers.

Ramsey Villaver ended second with 55 points as Haylin Bardaje came out third with 50 points.

On the other hand, Team Kalit sealed its victory with 104 points while Gwapings trailed with 81 points and Lapu-Lapu-Rut with 73 points for third.

For his part, the one-armed cyclist, Rex Gonzales bagged the overall title in class C even if he was beaten by Monas' Michael Pagalon in the final stage.

Gonzalez got the overall title with 67 points, just a one-point advantage over Pagalon as Roger Lastimoso ended third with 55 points.

Gonzalez's win was also aided by the disqualification of Stage 2 winner Virgilio Hermosa, who arrived late in the final individual classification and in the criterium.

Kalit's class C team also was on top with 105 points while Monas settled second with 95 points and Atbog ending its quest at third spot with 70 points in the event sponsored by Richard Clarke, Danao City mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III and councilor Boying Rodriguez and Vellum.

Aside from the final action of the CCC, the class A riders also provided an added excitement, which saw Antonio Nebria winning the top post.

Randy Carbonera trailed Nebria and they were followed by Nilo Barbalose.
