Lizares team paces 9th Corn Tee

The team of Rudy Lizares, Jr. set the scorching early pace in the 9th Corn Tee Invitational Golf Tournament of Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu yesterday in Pulangyuta, Danao City by shooting a total of 127 points.
Lizares carded seven-under-par 43 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System and got a big lift from his son, Gassy who made a first-day best score of 11-under-par 47 while the third member of the squad, Jonjie Chiongbian added 37.
This three-man team event, mainly backed by San Miguel Corporation, has a total of 105 competing teams, said Ricarte Santos, the tournament's overall chairman. Santos said that each team is composed of a club member and two guests.
At second spot is the team Jun Zosa with 117 points. Zosa fired 36 points and was supported by the 42 of Alex Garcia and 39 of Bobby Barria.
Tied for the third spot are two teams with 116 points apiece. Alvin Alazas with 42 points lead one team that also had Erwin Siao (38) and Francis Dy (36).
Ben Tio Peng Seng with 37 led other team with 116 with his members Tony Sikimhua with 37 and Peter Yang with 42.
On solo fifth spot is the team led by Rick Santos who shot 44 points. His members Marlou Velasquez (35) and Masaya Hishida (33) contributed to the total of 112.
Gassy Lizares led the top individual scorers with 47 followed by Santos with 44. Rudy Lizares is at third with 43 alongside Dr. Tony San Juan.
Garcia, Yang and Alazas are one point behind with 42 points apiece.
At stake for a hole-in-one are a Toyota Altis from Toyota Cebu City on holes No. 8 and 17. The other hole-in-one prizes, which are at stake on all holes, are a Privacy car from Norkis Automotive Resource, a Cebu-Dubai-Cebu ticket from Qatar Airways, and a Cebu-Hong Kong-Cebu ticket from Philippine Airlines. Casino Filipino is the Diamond Sponsor of this event while Cebu Mitsumi, Duros Development Corp., Newtrends International Corp., and Profood International Corp. are the Gold Sponsors.
