CAS beauty; Nursing, Dentistry & Medicine cheerdancers sparkle in 2006 UV Intramurals
An affable lass from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the glamorous dancers from the College of Nursing, Dentistry, and Medicine stole the spotlight in yesterday's kick-off bash of the University of the Visayas Intramurals 2006 at the UV grounds.
CAS representative Myra Lago, a 19-year-old AB Political Science student, outsmarted a bevy of beauties with her gorgeous looks and wits to romp away with the Miss UV Intramurals 2006 crown.
On the other hand, the combined performers from the College of Nursing, Dentistry and Medicine representing United States of America electrified the large throng of spectators with their elegant costume and lovely production number to win the school's first ever "Cheerdance Comparza."
UV athletics director Chris Mejarito said the "Cheerdance Comparza" is a dance drama with storyline and is beefed up with cheers and yells.
"It is introduced for the first time in UV Intramurals because Sir Dodong (Gullas) wants to have a different kind of presentation with a touch of comparza," said Mejarito.
Jose "Dodong" R. Gullas is UV's executive vice president.
Mexico, composed of Computer Science, Business Administration, and Maritime College, bagged the second place honors, while Hawaii, powered by High School and Elementary Department, finished third.
The consolation prizes in the "Cheerdance Comparza" went to China composed of College of Law, Education and Criminology and Latin America manned by College of Arts and Sciences, Pharmarcy, and Engineering and Architecture.
A total of 13 sporting disciplines will be contested in the four-day athletic meet. These are basketball, volleyball, badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, sepak takraw, track and field, swimming, taekwondo, karatedo, scrabble and chess.
The dancesport competition will highlight the closing and awarding ceremonies on September 15.
In keeping up with its theme this year, "Students Empowerment in Academics and Sports Through Competition", several academics and extra-curricular events will also be competed such as the math, science and IT quiz bowls, spelling bee and literary, oration, declamation, and "balak" contests.
