MLSDF- Cebu City finishes Third in Gensan boxfest

-
The M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF)-Cebu City Boxing Team bagged one gold, one silver and two bronze medals to finish third overall in the recently concluded 2006 Tuna Festival Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament at the General Santos City gym.

Jojo Ouano of Pit-os National High School produced Cebu City's lone gold after clobbering Jed Harold Anguis of host General Santos to dominate the 42 kgs. division.

Joseph Von Miñoza added silver to Cebu City's medal count in the 61 kgs. class, while Gerald Suico and Edcel Tuñacao chipped in bronze medals in the 42 kgs. and 46 kgs. categories, respectively.

Panabo City (Davao) ruled the four-day boxfest sanctioned by the Amateur Boxing of the Philippines (ABAP) with five golds, while host GenSan took the first runner-up honors with four gold medals.

The other members of the MLSDF-backed Cebu City squad of head coach Peter Cuizo were Eddie Boy Aviar ( 39 kgs.), KJ Pelayo (32 kgs.), Norberto Taño ( 44 kgs.) and Marjohn Yap (48 kgs.).

The GenSan trip of the promising Cebu City pugilists is being sponsored by MLSDF through the initiative of its executive director Eddie Ybañez, who shouldered their transportation expenses aside from providing them meal allowances.

"Even though we did not win the championship, the important thing is that we're giving the Cebu City boxers the much-needed exposure. In that way, we're not only boosting their morale, but also helping them grow as better fighters in future competitions," said Ybañez.
