Top seed Makinano rules E-Mall Chess Challenge

The top-ranked Anthony Makinano completed a seven-game sweep with a final round victory over Harold Diano to win the championship of the Elizabeth Mall Chess Challenge 2002 at the E-Mall Activity Center.

Makino finished the seven-round Swiss system tournament with a perfect 7.0 points to take home the crown.

Diano, Mario Mangubat, Delfin Yano, Eden Diano and Glen Pardillo ended up with 6.0 points apiece to occupy the second to sixth spots.

Mangubat capped his campaign with win over Erwin Ababat, Yano trounced Ryan Trajera, Eden Diano subdued Francisco Abugho, while Pardillo tamed Joel Pacuribot.

Mark Mangubat, who hurdled his final round assignment against Leonardo Alidani, landed at seventh place with 5.5 points.

Rounding up the top 19 placers with 5.0 points each were Erwin Ababat, Joel Pacuribot, Francisco Abugho, Voltaire Sevillano, Antonio Cabibil, Brian Patalinghug, Rodrigo Alejandre, Venancio Loyola, Edwel Alesna, Carlos Moreno III, James Angelo Uy and Allan Salientes.
