This was the very inspiring message of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during her speech in the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women 2006 Genra Assembly yesterday at the Capitol Social Hall.
Garcia encourages all the Cebuanos to show unity because "in unity we can hope to achieve." She added this unity volleyball cup "is an expression of our hopes, despite of all the threats that the province experienced."
The Guv Cup is not only for the sake of games, but also for sports tourism because the players will be going to different towns and cities around the province.
Glen Anthony Soco, president of Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) and Guv Cup chairman, said they are expecting more teams to join and that the level of competition will be higher this time.
So far, a total of 42 teams have confirmed their participation to join the competition. This include eight newcomers in Asturias, Borbon, Compostela, Cordova, Dalaguete, Sibonga, Tabogon and Tuburan.
The 2nd Guv Cup will kick off late September at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex. Last year's champion was Lapu-Lapu City followed by Toledo.
The cluster champion will receive P20,000, while the runner-up gets P10,000. The overall champion will pocket a whopping P100,000 cash prize, while the second and third placers will take home P50,000. - Marigold P. Lebumfacil, Correspondent
