Horii leads winners of 3rd Aznar Golf Cup

Long time Cebu resident Koichi Horii led the winners of the 3rd Matias H. Aznar II Memorial Cup Golf Tournament over the weekend as he bagged the overall title of the event played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.
Horii carded a gross score of one-over-par 73 strokes off nines of 34 and 39.
The class A title of the tournament went to Ernesto 'Dodong' Siguan who shot a net score of 65 strokes off a gross 77. First runner-up for the class was Evans Tumaliwan with a net score of 66 edging Eduardo Eroy in the countback. Eroy settled for the 2nd runner-up honors.
Bobot Ngo took the class B title with a net score of 61 strokes followed by Cristino Lim at 1st runner-up with a net score of 63. Second runner-up was Eduardo 'Eddie' Manzano with a net 64 edging Owen Algoso.
The class C championship went to Ben Smits with a net score of 64 after he pulled past Tito Pintor in the countback. Pintor settled for the 1st runner-up honors and 2nd runner-up was Johnny Paras with a net score of 67.
David Villono scored a tournament-best net score of 59 strokes and won the title for the seniors division. Villono, a 17-handicapper, scored a gross four-over-par 76.
First runner-up for the seniors' class was Boy Cunanan with a net score of 61 while Manuel Go was 2nd runner-up with his net 63.
The ladies' crown went to Joy Siguan with her net score of 61 edging junior golf standout Irina Gabasa in the countback. Joy is the wife of Dodong, who won the class A plum.
Gabasa took the 1st runner-up honors while 2nd runner-up was Michelle Lee with a net score of 65 strokes.
Marlo Cugtas topped the guest division with his net score of 63 strokes followed at 1st runner-up by Boy Alegre with a net score of 64. Second runner-up was Efren Sarmiento with a net score of 66 edging Danny Rigor in the countback.
The 18-hole tournament used the medal play format and was participated in by around 240 players.
The Aznar family in joint venture with Sta. Lucia Realty and Development Inc. are the developers of Alta Vista, which is considered as one of the best courses in the southern part of the country. - NLQ
