The Department of Education (DepEd) here is eyeing Dumaguete City as host of the 2006 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet even as Koronadal, South Cotabato wins the right to host the 2007 Palarong Pambansa in April.
Chief Vivian Giñete of the Physical Education for School Sports (PESS) here in Central Visayas said DepEd Regional Director Carolino Mordeno is planning to give to Dumaguete City the hosting job of the CVIRAA meet.
"Director Mordeno is planning to offer the CVIRAA meet to Dumaguete City and we are positive they will accept the offer because they were even asking us if we can have the Palarong Pambansa there?" Giñete said.
The Regional Office already has released a memorandum to all divisions to start preparing for the CVIRAA meet.
Mordeno is ordering all the divisions to conduct their respective division meets within the months of October to November since the CVIRAA meet is planned to be held in December this year.
"The region is holding the CVIRAA meet earlier because the Palaro will also be held before the election and the Holy Week," Giñete explained.
The CVIRAA meet is usually held April and the Palaro in May.
Meanwhile, Koronadal won the right to host the Palarong Pambansa over Tubod, Lanao del Norte and Zamboanga City.
It was decided on July 27 during the DepEd Palaro Summit in Manila, which was attended by top officials of the Education Department, its regional directors, PESS chiefs and technical group.
Koronadal bested the two other bidders because it has the amenities, which are needed for a successful hosting of the event like the availability of big private schools located within the locality, which will serve as billeting centers of the delegates.
Also, security was considered as one of the primary basis in the selection for the host.
It was learned that majority of the officials were not at all sold out about the idea of a "ceasefire" or "peace talk" between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the insurgents in the area of Lanao and Zamboanga City.
Negros Oriental, which earlier voiced out its intentions to host the Palaro has decided to differ their bid to 2009, which is the turn of the Visayas Region to host the multi-event meet intended for elementary and secondary students.
