August 11, 2006 | 12:00am
The day went to Stanford Labs/ Worldwide Steel'99 even as defending champion Dunkin Donuts/Gillamac'97 took the solo lead after Batch'99 logged its first win over one of the strongest squads Bimoli Cooking Oil in a 62-59 thriller in the Sacred Heart Alumni Basketball Association (SHABA) tournament at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit gym.
Stanford Lab/Worldwide Steel'99 had an easy going, taking command of the game until Bimoli Cooking Oil rallied in the fourth quarter to cut the latter's deficit by only two points in the last two minutes.
Bimoli had three chances to tie, if not take the lead but Batch 99 was more determined to win and prevented Bimoli from pulling ahead.
Kent Ong and Robert Gilo had 15 and 14 points, respectively, to lead their team while Bimoli relied on many times MVP Dave Lim, with 18 points and Tiyoy Lim with 15 points.
On the other hand, Borplus Pipes 91/92/93 now stands with 2-2 win-loss card, with the latest win taken without a sweat via default against K1 Family KTV 2001 due to the absence of most of its members.
Another undermanned squad, Crazy Dragons 97/02 lost to Big Mao 87/95, 88-82.
Big Mao stayed undefeated (3-0) and so with the defending champion Dunkin Donuts/Gillamacs 97, who now got the solo lead with four straight wins after coming out too strong for M.T.O 98/05, 83-61.
Hyundai'94 also won against GEF-Koppel with a 53-46 mark while the debuting San Miguel'06 had a back-to-back win at the expense of Petron Blaze 95,60-58. - Caecent No-ot
