Maasin City's hometown pride Alex Aroy of Rex "Wakee" Salud Stable hopes to settle unfinished business with his Mindanao rival Noel Veronque of Zamboanga as they clash in a non-title bout scheduled for 10 rounds topbilling "The Rematch" card on August 16 at the Maasin City Gym in Southern Leyte.
Aroy and Veronque's first encounter on November 25 last year ended in second round technical draw as the bout had to be stopped after Aroy sustained a nasty cut on his face caused by accidental head-butt.
Now that their paths will cross once again, boxing buffs in Maasin can expect an explosive show as Aroy and Veronque will surely wage an all-out war to clear up once and for all who's the better fighter between them.
In the undercard of the slambang promotion presented by Rex "Wakee" Salud International in partnership with the city government and sports council of Maasin, Junrey Cañete of Bato, Leyte tackles Gerald Garcia of Mandaluyong City in a six-rounder duel.
Three of Maasin's local prospects in Angelito Entia, Adonis Aguelo and Jun Ferando will dazzle their hometown fans as they face off separate foes in four-rounder matches.
Entia and Aguelo will clash with visiting fighters from Cebu City in Jimmy Siscon and Reggie Campus, respectively, while Ferando will square off against Ian Arcalin of Dumaguete City.
Before the pro action, exiting amateur bouts will entertain the spectators of the event assembled behind the efforts of Maasin City Vice Mayor Malony Samaco, who also serves as the city's sports council chairman.
Sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the card is also supported by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) through the Leyte Amateur Boxing Association (LEYAMABA) and ABAP Maasin City Chapter. Tickets are priced at P500 for sponsors, P200 for ringside, P100 for lower box and P50 for general admission.-EBV
