San Jose Bakeshop tops Copa de Golf

San Jose Bakeshop left the rest of the field eating its dust as it bagged the crown in the 6th Copa de Golf of Casino Español played at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.

The golfer of the year title went to Maxci Borromeo, who scored 38 points. This award was given to the Casino Español member with the most points.

The team amassed 113 points in the four-man team event where the three best scores in the Modified Stableford Scoring System would count for the total.

Blake Go led the winning squad with 40 points and was backed by Marc Gonzalez with 37 and Mark Dy with 36. Jojo Tiongko's 28 did not count.

First runner-up honors went to Metroland Holdings with 108 points. Enrico Solon shot 38 points to lead the team and was ably supported by Victor Gocela with 36 and Dennis Canoy with 34. Lino Dagus scored 31 and did no count.

Mactan Memorial had a total of 107 points and prevailed in the countback to finish as second runner-up. The team was composed of brothers Cesar, Freddie, and Benhur Salimbangon with 37, 36, and 34 points respectively with Antonio Quitevis, whose 29 did not count, completing the squad.

Third runner-up honors went to Asturias Farm also with 107 points behind Toto Parco's 39, Maning Granada's 37, and Raul Mabanto's 31. Henry N. Uy had 25 and did not count for the total.

Co-presentors of the event were Globe Platinum, Rajah Park Hotel, and Thunderbird.

Major backers of the tournament were Metaphil, Cardoc, Skygo, Cebu Mitsumi, Premiere Wines, Philippine Airlines, Kia Motors Cebu, and Abeseria Restaurant and Deli. While the donors are Philips, Julie's Bakeshop, Grand Majestic, and Promac. - NLQ
