Barria-Mendoza team rules The View

The tandem of Bobby Barria and Jovey Mendoza emerged as the overall champion of The View Invitational 2006, which ended yesterday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Barria and Mendoza combined for a total of 155 points in the two rounds of play shooting rounds of 73 and 82. Barria made 37 and 39 in the two days that he played while Mendoza scored 36 and 43.

They were tied with the team of Nonoy Alba and Penelle Piad, which also scored a total of 155 on rounds of 72 and 83, but Barria and Mendoza prevailed in the countback.

Alba and Piad instead settled for the class B title. Alba fired rounds of 35 and 42 while Piad made 37 and 41.

The class A title went to the duo of Felix Villanueva and Pete Cantillas with an aggregate of 153 points on rounds of 73 and 80. Villanueva made 32 and 41 while Cantillas had 41 and 39.

First runner-up for class A was the team of tournament chairman Poch Lamug and Lorenzo Teng with 152 points (77-75). Lamug fired rounds of 38 and 38 while Teng made 39 and 37. Second runner-up honors went to Patrick Evans King and Lester Salazar, who edged Rolando Alberto and Noel Abad in the countback.

Both teams finished with aggregates of 151 points.

The first runner-up for class B was the team of Henry Chu and Edu Larrazabal with 153 points (78-75). Chu had rounds of 46 and 37 while Larrazabal shot 32 and 38. Second runner-up was the tandem of Victor Gocela and Rainier Mendoza with 148 points (72-76).

The class C plum went to the duo of Richard Lim and Edward Uy with a two-day output of 148 points on rounds of 70 and 78. Lim had rounds of 36 and 40 while Uy shot 34 and 38.

First runner-up for class C was the team of Antonio Sikimhua and Peter Yang with a total of 143 points on rounds of 69 and 74. Second runner-up honors went to Jerry T. Uy and Emmanuel Tesalona with 142 (69-73).

The day 1 winners were Rolando Alberto and Noel Abad for class A with 80 points while the title for class B went to James Ferraren and Marlon Oclarence with 73, while the class C diadem went to Hansel Ong and Elpedio Ong with 74.

The top scorers for day 2 were Blake Go and Mark Dy for class A with 80 points, Henry Chin Uy and Stweart Go for class B with 76 and Ernesto Siguan and Chito Villareal with 74.

Alejandro 'Jun' Dayot was however the star of the tournament as he scored a hole-in-one last Saturday on the 155-yard hole No. 13.

Dayot won a windfall of prizes that included P100,000 from CICI General Insurance, a Yamaha golf cart from Kart Plaza, a Yamaha motorcycle from Norkis, and trips to foreign and local destinations.
