Multi-titled Cebuana coach Jessica Jawad-Honoridez will be leading Team Philippines in the 12th Southeast Asian Juniors Table Tennis Championships in Bangkok, Thailand today.
The country is represented by a solid-Cebuano line-up and the distaff side coming from different parts of Luzon.
If not for Cebu City Councilor Sylvan "Jack" Jakosalem, the Cebuanos participation in the five-day event would have been cancelled.
Honoridez passed the request for assistance for Team Cebu City players, but for unknown reasons, the office of Cebu City Councilor Raul "Yayoy" Alcoseba missed to forward it to the Cebu City Sports Commission for action.
Although the CCSC was able to approve it, it still needed Mayor Tomas Osmeña's approval and time ran out.
With that, Jakosalem had to make arrangement with Travel Saver's Agency regarding the payment of the Cebuano athletes' plane tickets.
The Cebuanos competing in Thailand today are Dannel Jay Tormis, Benedict Gantuangko and Jonathan Jacalan.
The Cebuanos will be playing in the 15-under division.
This will be the first time in their fourth participation that a Cebuano will be competing in the 15-under class.
In the distaff side, representing the Philippines are Janine Dy, Iane Larriba and Keitlene Cruz.
