Huerva, Uy claim crowns in class A

Joey Huerva and Kathleen Uy led the winners in the 3rd Cebu Country Club Junior Open Golf Tournament, which closed yesterday at the CCC course in barangay Kasambagan, this city.
Huerva of Negros slipped past CCC's Charles Daniel Uy in the first hole of the sudden-death playoff to take the title for the boys' class A (15 to 17 years old) category. CCC's Uy, for her part, scored a tournament-best two-day total of 151 strokes to bag the girls' class A crown.
Huerva and Charles Uy both finished the tournament with aggregates of 154 strokes and had to play an extra hole to determine the winner. Uy settled for the first runner-up honors while Del Monte's Adrian Woo finished as 2nd runner-up with a total of 157.
Runner-up honors for class A of the distaff side went to Hannah Wong also of CCC with 172 strokes on rounds of 90 and 82. Kathleen Uy played flawlessly for the second straight day as she scored 74 and 77.
Chepe Dulay of Negros shot rounds of 74 and 81 for a total of 155 strokes that won him the boys' class B (13 to 14) crown. Franz Olea of CCC was second with 160 (80-80) while Mikhael Martin Manglapus also of CCC was third with 165 (78-87).
The class B crown for the girls' division went to Marian Woo of Del Monte with 161 (77-84) while runner-up honors went to Julianne Pacetes of Synergy with 177 (90-87).
Bets from the host club took both titles in class C (11 to 12). Lloyd Jefferson Go topped the boys' division with a total of 156 (75-81) while Abby Olea won the girls' title with 161 (83-78).
First runner-up for the boys' was Paolo de Leon of Negros with 166 (80-86) followed by Clyde Mondilla of Del Monte with 168 (90-78). The runner-up for the distaff side was Irina Gabasa of Alta Vista with 170 (84-86).
Angelo Jose Gandiongco of CCC ruled the boys' class D (9 to 10) with 154 (80-74) followed by Synergy's Harvey Sytiongsa with 170 (82-88) and Del Monte's Marco Oliver Los Baños with 171 (86-85).
Sunny Chung of Synergy ruled the girls' class D with a total of 205 (99-106) followed by Emylou Tan of Alta Vista with 211 (100-111).
Alta Vista's Marc Georgio Go won the boys' class E (8 and under) crown with a total of 83 strokes on rounds of 41 and 42. The players for this class played only 9 holes per day.
Jelbert Gamolo and Nico Canlas of Del Monte finished second and third with totals of 85 and 88 respectively.
Rachita Vasandani of CCC topped the girls' side with 71 (39-32) while runner-up honors went to Lois Kaye Go of CCC with 79 (41-38).
Del Monte's Meloy Cubillo won the crown for the special division (18 to 23) with a total of 159 (77-82) followed by teammate Belem Arancon with 160 (80-80) and Erwin Madriliño of Negros with 161 (79-82).
The Players of the Year for the different age categories were also recognized.
Arancon won it for the special division while Art Arbole Del Monte topped boys' class A and Kathleen Uy the girls' division.
The best for the three-leg series under class B were Manglapus for the boys' class and Kristine Leonen of Del Monte for the girls'.
Mondilla was best among the boys for class C and Olea topped the list among the girls. For class D, Los Baños won the boys' title and Kaye Tabanas of Del Monte was best for the girls.
For class E, Gamolo was best among the boys and Vasandani for the girls.
The Players of the Year award went to the golfers with the lowest aggregate after the three legs played starting at Del Monte Golf Club in Bukidnon moving to the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bacolod then Cebu.
