Visiting pugs steal the show in Tita Gwapa boxfest

The visiting amateur boxers showed their coming over to Cebu was all worth it as most of them outpointed their respective foes in the "Bakbakan Sa Tindahan Ni Tita Gwapa Amateur Boxing Challenge" over the weekend in Minglanilla.

San Carlos City's Maron Sanchez only needed a minute and 45 seconds in the second round to beat Ronald Alvarado of Maguikay, Mandaue by Referee-Stop-Contest Outclassed in their 54 kgs. battle.

Mark Gil Millegen of Bago City escaped with a 2-1 win over Marjo Borres of the University of the Visayas, while bets from back-to-back Inter-City champion Tagbilaran City in Ricky Sismondo and Melvin Besinga posted contrasting wins.

Sismondo had a 2-1 victory over Labogon's Alde Desosa in the 48 kgs. division, while Besinga pounded a 3-0 shutout win over Marlou Tobis in the 30 kgs.

Bukidnon's Wingwing Haya, however, was not as lucky as the other visiting pugs as he lost to Talamban National High School's Joseph Omana, 0-3, in the 57 kgs. class.

ALA Fight Club trainees Nicolai Roble and Jeremy Castillo, on the other hand, emerged victorious. Roble slammed Mandaue City Central School's Nikim Sumalinog, 3-0, in the 42 kgs., while Castillo dumped Opao's Danilo Canete in the 54 kgs.

Maguikay had three bets winning in 28 kgs. Eddie Boy Abiar, 30 kgs. Gerald Suico, and 40 kgs. Florande Alboro.

Abiar nipped Cabancalan's JV Jao, 3-0, Suico eked out a 2-1 win over Talamban's Dan Lou Codilla, and Florande Alboro whipping Basak's Pedro Sulondro.

Aside from Omaña, Talamban also had another win courtesy of KJ Suico, who crushed Warren Mata, 3-0, in the 30 kgs. division, but saw Charlie Flores bowing down to Pier-4's Jendy Boy Mahusay, 0-3, in the 40 kgs. class.

Barrio Luz's 26 kgs. bet, Roel Cal, earned a 2-1 win over Zapatera's Aride Boyose, while Barili's 48kgs. entry, Rolito Mingasca, silenced Ermita's Fernand Campaña, 3-0, in the 48 kgs. category.
