Mandaue bets start strong in Shakey's volleyball

-
Two public schools from Mandaue City were never intimidated with the presence of fancied bets from the Queen City of the South as they led the winners in the first day of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League at the University of San Carlos gym yesterday.

Don Gerardo Ouano National School opened its bid with a 2-0 victory against the University of San Carlos squad, starting with a thrilling 27-25 win in the first set and sealing the action at 25-22.

The determined DGONHS came back to the gym and closed the day with another win, this time, a lop-sided one over Pit-os National High School, 25-5, 25-15.

Before DGONHS chalked its second win, Mandaue Comprehensive National High School (MCNHS) was sitting pretty on top alone.

MCNHS slapped the University of Cebu with a 25-19, 25-17 win and followed it up with over favorite University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, 26-28, 25-11, 25-15.

USC, which was beaten by DGONHS earlier, bounced back and pulled a 25-23, 25-14 victory against UC.

University of San Jose-Recoletos, however, made sure not to suffer the same setbacks as it won against Pit-os NHS, 25-13, 25-15.

The Cebu elimination open organized by Spike Sports along with the Cebu Volleyball Federation saw Philippine Volleyball Federation president Roger Branzuela gracing the event.

Action in this Mikasa, Air Philippines and Toby's-supported event resumes on May 18.
