CebuFA belles pummel Masbate

The Cebu Football Association (CebuFA) lady booters went off to a rousing start as it blanked Masbate, 5-0, yesterday at the start of the 2006 National Women's Under-17 Championship in San Carlos City.

CebuFA logged two goals in the first half, the first was dropped by striker Presley Cunningham off a nice pass by right fielder Bea Maximo at the 19th.

Fourteen minutes later, Gabby Aboitiz made the second goal through a direct kick, 15 meters away from the goal.

Cunningham added another goal with just three minutes gone by in the second half, this time, she knocked it in from an assist by centerfielder Gabby Mercado.

Christine Mantos was accounted for Cebu's fourth goal, before Stephanie Sharpe sealed the 5-0 shutout with a goal off a pass by Jovannah Yu with seven minutes remaining in the game.

With the win, CebuFa leads group A with three points, while Davao and Bukidnon, which figured in a 3-all draw, settled with one point each.

The other players for CebuFA include Merlie Watson and Danica Ronquillo of CIS, Sacred Heart School for Girls' Julienne Canoy, Erika Casas, Patty Liu, Mitchella Muller and Jackie Ting, Southcrest's Nikki Sembrano and San Roque's Monica Trebol.

Elying Toledo and Dexter Arrojado are calling the shots for trhe CebuFA belles, with Brian Bedford as the team manager.

In the other matches under group B, Iloilo defeated Iligan, 7-0, while Negros Oriental went too much for South Cotabato, 7-1.

Today, the Cebuana booters shoot for their second win against Davao, while Masbate takes on Bukidnon.
