Cañete enjoyed a bye in the second round and then was suppose to meet Eric Pepito and Carlo dela Torre in the quarterfinals, but the two had a double default, sending him to the semifinal round.
Cañete awaits the winner of the quarterfinal match between Gierome Magnanao and Mhar Sierra. Other quarterfinalists in the said class are Keanne Barraquias and Julrico Pagsiat.
Just like Cañete, another top Cebuano netter, Jacob Lagman is also sitting pretty, waiting for his quarterfinal round opponent after winning against Christian Repunte, 6-0, 6-0 in the 12-under class.
Anito Prieto is also into the quarterfinal round of the 14-under after taking a no-sweat win with a double default from John Thaddeus Campo and Marvin Minoza.
On the other hand, the rest of the 12-under class are still in the second round including Kaye Repunte, April Joy Toring, Bran Ernest Mancapis, Mikko Alazas, Joel dela Torre, Christian Melecio, Kim Ayuda, Marion Mendoza, Rico Gudes, Francis Edward Paranagon and Kurt Gerapuso.
In the 14-under, those who got into the second round are Princeton Gerapuso, Juniel Espinosa, Aaron Rosca Espina, Michael Largo, Joseph Tallo, Arc Montecalvo, Joel Pavo, John Rey Borillano, Christian Paul and Christian John Cabahug, John Timbancaya, Jayvee Canoy, and Amiel Aya-ay.
In the boys 16-under, the never-say-die Cyril Camporedondo is hoping to break the total jinx after winning over Froilan Aquino in the first round, 6-3, 7-5.
Joining Camporedondo in the second round are Reymond Padigos, Aljen Oliver, Maki Bundaug, April Joy Ledesma, June Ryan Montecalbo, Lowell Lloyd Cañete, Kenneth Lim, Ronaldo Espina, Kennex Abadia, Jade Labaya, Gerald Lambayan, Larry Antigua and Jomar Pavo.
