Can't fool promdis

FULL POINT - FULL POINT By Nimrod Quiñones -
I was very happy to hear a couple of nights ago that a 'grand' plan to rock the leadership of a national sports association where I am a card bearing and paying member did not take place.

While I would say that the set up the organization is not perfect, I resent the idea being peddled by lobbyists that the only way a sport can develop is if the president of the NSA will use his own money to buy equipment and give to the clubs in the province.

This sounds good, but at the same time scary.

While I believe that there are still many philanthropists, who would probably do that, it is scary to try to figure out what is the bottom line or the agenda behind it.

When the smoke of the battle settled, it somehow became obvious as to who had a hidden agenda.

It's really hard to believe fairy tales these days, so these people from Manila who think they can just peddle such lies to promdis better think twice before trying to lure us with their sweet talk or should I say, sweet text messages.

The April Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club is set today and tomorrow using the individual medal play format.

I was sent a fax late yesterday about the event, but then my schedule this weekend, just does not include golf in it with the 6th Cebu Inter-Club Football Tournament ongoing.

Alta Vista club members are however encouraged to join the tournament where prizes for the top finishers in classes A to C of the men's division, seniors, ladies, and jungolf categories will get awards.

A cash prize of P102,000 aside from a Skygo motorcycle await the player who can score a hole-in-one. These prizes will be shared in case more than one player will score an ace.

The opening of the 6th Cebu Inter-Club Football Tournament yesterday was simple, but I believe very meaningful to the local football community.

The Cebu Amateur Football Club headed by my good friend Richard Montayre, is again putting a tournament together to give players a venue to display their skills.

This year, there are again teams from other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, which makes the tournament not only more colorful, but also more exciting.

I would have played in my first game yesterday afternoon if not for a clutch failure. No, not mine, but that of my vehicle while I was heading to the field for our team's (Queen City United Football Club) game against Ormoc. Thanks to my friends from Auto Box, most specially Jun Procianos, who were quick to send a team of mechanics and they promised to finish work today. I hope this does not sound like reminding them of their promise. Hehehe

There will be more games today both at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit field and the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus.

Next year, games will be played at the Sports and Recreation Park at the South Reclamation Project. Councilor Sylvan 'Jack' Jakosalem, who graced the opening ceremony with Cebu Football Association president Jonathan 'Maxi' Maximo and director Jackie Deen-Lotzof, made this announcement yesterday.

Of course, the 'godfather' of Cebu football, Engr. Ricky Dakay, who was recently appointed as the sports director for football by the Cebu City Sports Commission, was also there not just as a sports leader, but also as a player like this deadline beater.

Ricky is aching to start work at the SRP and has his heavy equipment on stand by and ready for deployment once Mayor Tommy Osmeña will give the go signal.
