Santos wins Senior Golfers Fellowship tournament

-
Rolly M. Santos drove a little over a hundred kilometers up north last weekend and it paid off. So did his driving off the tee and his skills to maneuver around the hazards and greens.

Santos of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club scored four-over-par 73 strokes to win the lowest gross honors in the 2006 Summer Senior Golfers Fellowship Tournament at the Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club in Medellin, Cebu.

He won the title after edging Alan Tuck of Mactan Island Golf Club, who also carded 73 strokes.

The title for the Young Seniors category went to Bebs Libre of Cebu Country Club with a net score of 63 strokes off a gross 85. Tuck settled for the first runner-up honors with his net 64 after pulling past Joe Rodriguez of the host club in the countback. Rodriguez settled for the second runner-up honors.

Tony Tolosa of Club Filipino bagged the Mature Seniors crown with his net score of 58 strokes while Mactan's David Villono came in at first runner-up with his net score of 61. Second runner-up was Amado Villadar of Mercedes with a net score of 62.

Fel Ventulan of Mactan won the title of the Super Seniors class with his net score of 61 while John Uy of Alta Vista bagged the first runner-up plum via the countback over Totoy San Juan of Cebu Country Club. Both scored 65 strokes.

The guest division title went to Loonick Olivar, who led a sweep by members of the host club. Olivar, who plays with a handicap of 24 strokes, had a gross 74 and a spectacular net 19-under-par 50.

Harry Patel scored a net 56 to finish and first runner-up while Jaime Selor made a net 57 to take the second runner-up honors. - NLQ
