More aces and fasting
April 12, 2006 | 12:00am
Last Saturday morning, good news again woke me up. Vicente 'Inting' Sy scored a hole-in-one and Wellington 'Willy' Lim was there again as witness.
Willy witnessed two aces in two clubs in a span of four days. If the ace is spectacular enough, being witness to two within such a short period is also a feat in itself.
I'm trying to book a tee time with my partner so the luck he brings might also rub on me.
I have witnessed only one ace my whole life and that was more than seven years ago. I should play more I guess and maybe in Willy's flight.
This must be a season for aces as last Sunday an excited Raul Encarnacion relayed to me the news that Alta Vista director Richard 'Ricky' Aznar scored a hole-in-one on the par-3 13th.
Ricky used a Taylor Made No. 6 iron and a Pro-V1 No. 1 ball for the feat. He was in the company of the bigwigs of Marco Polo Plaza Hotel Rey Villar and Hans Hauri.
The ace was Ricky's first since he picked up the game in 1998. He still dabbles in tennis.
I thought Raul was with the flight, but he told me that he would have loved to, but he was in the other club. Well, maybe things would have been different is Raul was there, because this former Ateneo Blue Eaglet is known to give friendly reminders that sometimes set you off your game before your tee shot.
Raul would have told Ricky before the tee shot "Ingat sa O.B. on the left." Then Ricky would have thought of the OB and not the green. Naughty Raul loves doing that, but his friendliness can also kill you. Well, not literally. I hope hehehe…
Since there was no tournament that day, I'm sure our guys from the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, whose grand opening is eagerly awaited by the Cebuanos, would be giving him the presidential suite for a night. Or is it a week, but with Raul?
I haven't been up at Nivel Hills for a long time except to pass by the old hotel during my trips to Toledo City via the Transcentral Highway. Now, there is a good reason to go up there again. Just like the good old days.
I got this several times through my e-mail and would like to share it to all of you. It is entitled A Different Approach to Fasting.
Fasts have a tendency to be oriented toward things like giving up food or television. But there are many other creative ways we can welcome Jesus' healing touch. Below are some suggestions you may want to consider:
1.Fast from anger and hatred. Give your family an extra dose of love each day.
2.Fast from judging others. Before making any judgments, recall how Jesus overlooks our faults.
3.Fast from discouragement. Hold on to Jesus' promise that He has a perfect plan for your life.
4.Fast from complaining. When you find yourself about to complain, close your lips, eyes and recall some of the little moments of joy Jesus has given you.
5.>Fast from resentment or bitterness. Work on forgiving those who may have hurt you.
6.Fast from spending too much money. Try to reduce your spending by ten percent and give those savings to the poor.
I hope we will all have a solemn and safe celebration of the Holy Week.
