Rubillar prefers to fight Viloria

A Filipino versus Filipino in a world boxing championship match is fast shaping up.

This after World Boxing Councill mandatory light flyweight challenger Juanito Rubillar has turned down the offer to fight for the interim version of the WBC belt against Nelson Dieppa, instead opting to challenge reigning champion Brian Viloria, a Filipino-American.

Karl Freitag of Fightnews.com reported the free negotiation period for the Rubillar and Viloria camps to agree to a fight ends on April 7, after which there will be a WBC purse bid.

Earlier, Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran, who is associated with top Mexican fighters Erik Morales and Jorge Arce, tendered a $25,000 purse offer for Rubillar to fight Dieppa next month in Puerto Rico after he learned that Viloria suffered an injury in his right hand from previous bout against Jose Antonio Aguirre.

But Rubillar's handler Gabriel "Bebot' Elorde, Jr. informed the father and son team of WBC president Jose and executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman that they want no other fight next than the mandatted title bout against Viloria.
