Sweet-shooting guard Joel Chan and cat-quick playmaker Stephen Lee both reached a milestone and it was no less than a triple celebration for them as they spurred Armour Wood '81/85 to a 56-49 win over Asia Surplus and Tires '92 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 8th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Tuesday at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.
Chan ended the match beaming with pride as he became the fifth member of the league's elite 2,000-point club, in the same way with Lee who emerged as the 29th player to breach the 1,000-point mark.
The other cagers who earlier reached the 2,000-point plateau were Sammy Sia of Class '84, Donald Anthony Ting of Class '95, CECABA founding president and current prexy Chester Cokaliong of Class '78, and Anwar Satina of Class '94.
Chan finished the game with 10 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Lee had 13 points and three rebounds. It was Edvin Kaw though who topscored with 15 points as Class '81/85 bettered its win-loss record to 6-1.
Class '81/85 dominated the game from start to finish and piled up a 16-point lead after three quarters, 45-29, huge enough to quash out a spirited 20-11 run by Class '92 in the closing minutes of the game.
Richard Lanutan came up with a solid double-double show, finishing with 20 points on top of a dozen rebounds, but his efforts went for naught as Class '92 tasted its fifth defeat against only two victories.
In the other game, Dewfoam '88 earned a share of the lead with Class '81/85 after demolishing Greenhills Quality Feeds '86/90, 52-39.
Class '88 actually went off to a cold start resulting into a 9-10 deficit at the end of the first period, but suddenly found its range and limited its opponents to only 19 points in the last 30 minutes of action.
