Good investment

Last Saturday's Cebu International School (CIS) Football Festival was another proof that the sport is very much alive and well in Cebu. More than that, it was also proof that there is really a big demand for coaches and other trained professionals to handle the development of the children, who engage in the sport.

I believe some people are already investing on such and soon there should be more qualified coaches and more events that would make the Cebu football community even livelier.

Thanks of course to the efforts of the many people behind these events that we get to have an active community.

Well, there will always be dissenters and there will always be the unsatisfied people, but in the end, if we are all there for the love of the game and of our children who play the game then let's try to contribute something positive.

Last Saturday's competition was the last of the events that our kids would be taking part in for this school year. What was so heartwarming to see was the enthusiasm of the parents to make it to the CIS campus in Pit-os and stay there for the whole day and probably get sun burnt in the process.

It's not easy to be lugging your folding or plastic chairs, huge ice boxes or coolers, baskets of food, folding tables, bags for the equipment, and a lot more, but seeing many other enthusiastic parents do the same, makes the task so much lighter.

Enterprising sportsmen should start looking at investing money in training coaches in the proper skills to run football teams, because there is a huge market for this one. Maybe our government can also help out by doing its share.

All La Sallites are invited to Makiberde Ta! on Friday (March 17), 6:30 pm at Chez Lucie located at GQS Plaza right across Gaisano Country Mall.

This is open to all graduates and undergraduates, who spent at least two years in a La Salle school.

Jun Dizon, one of the most active officers of the local chapter of the De La Salle Alumni Association together with his wife Bess, told me that the registration fee is only P350, which already includes dinner, free flowing wine, and entertainment.

One of the owners of Chez Lucie is of course a La Sallite, Michel Lhuillier, who is also the new chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission.
