PBFI National STUDENTS Championship: Mighty UV bombs out University of Zambo

- Gabby G. Malagar -
For the second time, the mighty University of the Visayas Green Lancers scored another wreckage - an 88-47 bashing of the University of Zamboanga in the Philippine Basketball Federation inc. (PBFI) National Students Championship yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The Lancers are gunning for their third straight victory at 1:30 pm today when they go up against one of their top rivals in Manuel Luis quezon University (MLQU) Stallions.

Eulogio Lasala Jr. again cashed in dougle figures just like in their 110-31 massacre of the University of Nueva Caceres the other day.

Lasala topscored for the Lancers with 14 points even as four others also finished in double digits underscoring their balanced attack.

Obviously, coach Elmer "Boy" Cabahug was hiding some of his aces in order for his key players not be scouted well by their opponents. Those who are yet to show their stuffs are Jayford Rodriguez, Ariel Mepaña and Kim Calo.

Jezar Esperat, Morsie Akad, and Rino Berami combined for 36 points as the UV Green Lancers sprinted to the top of the totem pole with a clean 2-0 slate.

Also expected to carry the load for the Lancers today is reigning CESAFI MVP Mark Ababon.

While the Lancers are celebrating, their secondary counterparts were not as lucky as the Baby Lancers fell at the hands of NCAA junior champion San Sebastian College.

The Baby Lancers cannot afford to lose against San Beda today as this means they will go home early.

The scores

UV (88) - Lasala 14, Esperat 13, Akad 12, Berami 11, Santos 10, Mepaña 9, Rodriguez 6, Abelong 5, Calo 4, Ababon 2, Lanete 2

U. Zambo (47) - Sebastian 13, Dullin 11, Saavedra 10, Sebastian 6, Dela Cruz 2, Flores 1
