Class '81/85 cruises to 4-0 Start in CECABA hoopfest

Armour Wood '81/85 hammered out a 66-47 rout of Villa Shipping '70s for its fourth straight win in as many starts in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 8th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Sunday at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.

Flashy guard Joel Chan had another monster game, finishing with 18 points on top of 15 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals, while Stephen Lee and Robert Yu chipped in 17 and 10 markers, respectively, as Class '81/85 earned a share of the overall lead with an immaculate 4-0 record.

Class '81/85 led by only five at halftime, 27-22, but suddenly ripped the game apart using a fierce 20-7 rally for an 18-point bulge, 47-29, heading into the final 10-minute mark of the contest.

Antonio was the only double digit scorer with 14 points and nine rebounds for Class '70s, which crashed to its fourth straight loss in as many games.

In the other match, JV Bakeshop 2002 chalked up its first victory of the season in style, gunning down the heavily favored Cokaliong Shipping '98 via a 58-57 cliffhanger.

It was a close battle from start to finish, but Class 2002 capitalized on the absence of Class '98's Erick Andrew So and team director Hubert Gochuico to pull off an upset and snap out of its four-game losing slump.

Paul Timothy So,Jed Lawrence Co, and Elvis Evangelista all had 11 points, but the efforts proved futile as Class '98 fell to 2-2.
