Class '84/87, '99 keep clean slates in CECABA

Eco-Tech Appliance '84/87 and Cebu Pacific Transport '99 pulled off contrasting wins to keep their unbeaten records intact in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 8th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Sunday at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.

George Artus came up with the finest game of his career, banging in 27 points as Class '84/87 pulled off the biggest upset of the season with a 62-57 bashing of defending champion Asia Surplus and Tires '92.

Earlier, Class '99 stretched its unscathed record to 3-0 by posting the most lopsided win so far this season - a merciless 90-35 demolition of the slumping Juvis Marketing 2003.

After scoring only 10 points in the first half, Artus sizzled with 17 in the final two quarters to hand Class '84/87 its second straight victory in as many starts.

Class '84/87 actually dictated the tempo of the match at the start to take an early 22-12 lead, but Class '92 fired back with a searing 20-6 run in the second period to wrest the upperhand, 32-28, at halftime.

However, Artus tossed in 10 points in a 15-7 blitz to put Class '84/87 back in front, 43-39, entering the final 10-minute mark of the contest.

Class '84/87 was able to neutralize Class '92 offense until the dying seconds to seal the match.

Warren William Yu had 13 points, while Oliver Tan added 11 markers for Class '92, which absorbed its first loss of the season against one win.

In the other game, Ruben Yap, Jr. churned out 20 points and Genseric Rowie Tan had 17 in Class '99's 45-point rout of the hapless Class 2003.

Class '99 pummeled Class 2003 quarter after quarter, the most lethal was the game-closing 35-6 blast that literally pulverized the younger graduates in smithereens at the final buzzer.

Kent Noeh Ang and Troy Symington Tan combined for 25 points for Class '99, which further pushed Class 2003 down the rear with a pitiful 0-3 win-loss record.
