Class '96 and '92 dump foes in CECABA

Five-time champion Big Boss '96 started its title defense without its twin towers, but still hammered out an ominous warning to its rivals by disposing off JRJ Enterprises 2000, 75-77, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 8th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Thursday at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.
In the other game, Warren William Yu became the 21st player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in style, leading Asia Surplus and Tires '92 to a 54-33 rout of Villa Shipping '70s.
Class '96 fought without Shaun Christopher Wang ang Jennis Lim, but their absence was hardly felt as Emmanuel Baron and Franklin Neil Ong gamely picked up the scoring cudgels finishing with 15 points apiece.
Gerald Go added 14 points for Class '96, which ripped the game apart right after the opening tip-off to mount a lofty 16-point bulge at halftime, 39-23.
Class '96 mellowed down in the third quarter, but went back to business in the payoff period where it outscored Class 2000, 20-12, to wrap up the 20-point demolition.
Rodnie Ocarol had 13 points, while Michael Llyod Tan added 12 markers in a losing cause.
In the second game, Warren William Yu completed a landmark night for him by topscoring for the defending Division I champion Class '92 with 14 points.
Just like Class '96, Class '92 did not miss the services of its top center Ryan Ordes as it smoothly dismantled the hapless Class '70s, with Mitchel Diputado chipping in 13 points and Richard Lanutan 12.
After posting a 16-point advantage at the intermission, 32-16, Class '92 continued to pummel Class '70s with a fierce offensive in the final two quarters for a convincing 21-point victory.
Nelson Uy scored seven points as no Class '70s player scored in double figures.
