Cebu's road running queen Christy Sevilleno hammered out an ominous warning to her rivals after she topped the women's division, while the men's side saw Mendel Lopez wearing the championship crown yesterday in the 2nd Sinulog 10K Run at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.
Sevilleno, a member of the University of Cebu athletics team, completed the lung-busting race in 37 minutes and 56.45 seconds to serve early notice of her serious campaign to live up to her lofty billing this year.
Sevilleno edged out archrival Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas, who settled for second place in 38:25.25.
Getaruelas was leading in the early goings, but Sevilleno narrowed the gap between them somewhere in Gorordo Avenue.
Sevilleno sped up and overtook Getaruelas in Mango Avenue. Sevilleno never looked back from there to win the crown denied from her last year by Cagayan de Oro City's Aileen Tolentino.
Joery Ann Lee landed at third place in 40:45.35.
Rounding up the fourth to 10th placers are Gina Adan, Merlita Arias, Camila Luterte, Jennifer Montero, Rowena Dunggon, Rodina Dunggon, and Mylene Jarina.
In the men's class, University of Southern Philippines Foundation's Mendel Lopez breasted the tape with the earliest time of 32 minutes and 37.20 seconds, eight seconds ahead of second placer Joseph Penales.
Adonis Singson came in third with the time of 32:53.89, while Miljun Luterte was fourth at 32:59.63 and Ramil Lumindas fifth at 33:17.24.
The sixth to 10th placers are Roland Montebon (33:22.07), Eugene Delposo (33:27.84), John Philip Duenas (33:51.86), Gilbert Luterte (34:38.54) and Rodulfo Aguspina (35:08.86).
On the other hand, Tomas Nuñez Sr. ruled the masters A, defeating a foreign runner Geofrey Monro and Jaime Manayaga, who finished second and third, respectively.
In the masters B, it was Paulino Obra who grabbed the top spot after Monro was eventually classified under masters A.
