Smart Sinulog 10K Run gets underway this am
January 8, 2006 | 12:00am
The 2nd SMART Sinulog 10K Run unfolds early today starting at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.
Hundreds of runners are expected to see action with different clubs registering for the event.
Among the running clubs joining are Timex, A2Z, Cebu Road Runners, Toledo, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Mandaue, Danao City and the organizing Cebu Executive Runner's Club led by its president Roel Militar.
A total of five categories will be featured: men and women's open, masters A and B and executives.
Bowen Montecillo is the defending men's champion. He will be challenged this time by a host of promising foot-racers in the likes of Mendel Lopez, Roland Montebon, Adonis Singson and Joseph Penales.
The women's class, on the other hand, is expected to be a close fight between defending titlist Christy Sevilleno and Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas.
The Sevilleno-Getaruelas rivalry heated up late last year when Getaruelas defeated Cebu's road running queen twice in a row.
The likes of Sharon Vega, new-comer Gina Atan and Joery Ann Lee are the other favorites to claim the top post.
Cash, trophies, and medals will be given away to the winners of the contest presented by Smart Communications Incorporated.
