Lapu-Lapu vs Toledo in GUV final

Tough and exciting championship match are expected to unfold today as Toledo City and Lapu-Lapu City battle for supremacy in the 1st Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup at 12:30 pm. in Mandaue Sports and Cultural Complex.
Toledo and Lapu-Lapu advanced in the final round after topping in the semifinal clash last Sunday. Both will be fighting for the hefty P100,000 championship cash.
Cluster six runner-up Lapu-Lapu City faces a more daunting task as they have to beat Toledo City twice having won all of its three matches in the semifinals.
In the semis, Toledo City had 3-0 win loss card including its victory over Lapu-Lapu City in four sets, while the latter sported a 2-1 record beating perennial rival and cluster six champion Mandaue City.
"We expect a lively and competitive games, we are excited the tournament will already culminate. We will see a more improved level of competition," said Cebu Volleyball Association president Glenn Soco.
Ironically, Toledo City and Lapu-Lapu City were the last two teams to confirm its participation in the tournament as they had to scramble for support. "It's a well deserved achievement after all they have gone through just to join the tournament because of some political squabbles, they have a tough fighting spirit" added Soco.
Exhibition games between volleyball legends including Thelma Barina, who played for Carcar and Grace Antigua will form a selection team.
"It's also nice to highlight these legends so that other players will know how they play during their prime," said Soco.
Expected to grace the event are Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Z. Ouano as well as Cebu City Sports Commissioner Jonathan Guardo.
Special awards will also be given away including MVP, Best Spiker, Best Libero, Best Tosser, Best Blocker and Best Server where they will receive cash incentive and Timex watches.
