Tribu Sugbu-Gabisan Shipping successfully defended its championship title without lifting a hand after Cindy's Tacloban defaulted in the finals of the Hilongos Open Invitational basketball tournament the other day in Hilongos, Leyte.
The Cebuano champions went home with the championship trophy which they turned over to team owner Lito S. Gillamac, Jr.
The team, which was also sponsored by the Gabisan Shipping, went 3-0 in the two-day Hilongos caging.
They defeated the Hindang Selection in their first assignment, 88-76, then Ormoc Selection, 101-93.
The Ormoc Selection settled for second place with a 2-1 win-loss card while Hindang dropped to 1-2 win-loss slate.
Cinday's, last year's losing finalist, went home to Tacloban with 0-3 win-loss record.
It was the eighth victory by Tribu Sugbu this month after scoring a 5-0 win in the Antipolo NBC-pre-season games to also become champion there.
Calling the shots for Tribu Sugbu were Armand Colina with Gaga Cabanilla as the assistant since coach Al Solis was in Dumaguete City for another commitment.
