Garcia and Team PPPP rule Tomodachi golf

Ramontito Garcia, a six-time club champion, once again displayed the form that earned him so many titles at the Cebu Country Club as he bagged the lowest gross honors last weekend in the 6th Tomodachi Tournament.

Garcia carded a gross score of one-under-par 71 strokes and slipped past another multi-winner of the club title, Carl Almario, and former junior golf champion Andre Borromeo to win the title.

Borromeo however got a major consolation as his team topped Division A of the tournament organized by the Japanese community.

Team PPPP of Borromeo, Marko Sarmiento, Jovi Neri, and Tadashi Ochiai came up with a record performance in the two-day, 18-hole contest finishing with a combined net score of 269 strokes, which is a tournament-best. Their margin of victory, which was 17 strokes, is also the biggest-ever in the six-year history of the tournament.

Sarmiento had a gross 72 and a net 68 while Borromeo made a gross 71 and a net 66 and Neri shot a gross 72 and a net 69. Their Japanese teammate, Ochiai, had a gross 76 and a net 66. Each team in the tournament must have a Japanese player.

First runner-up for division A was the team of club president Douglas LuYm (69), Jimmy Sy (67), Leo Alvez (77), and Kazuo Hangai (73) with a total of 286. The team of George Hong (71), Max Borromeo (72), Rudy Lizares (73), and Noburo Takahashi (71) was second runner-up with 287 after edging the group of Willy Lim, Arturo Go, Juanito Uy, and Joji Tatara in the countback.

The division B title went to team OOOO composed of Joselito Parco (69), Jacinto Jamero (71), Maning Granada (72), and Yukio Murata (74) with a total of 286 strokes.

Team III finished as first runner-up with 289 points. Antonio Tankaw (64), Ang Chiong (78), Junie Cimafranca (69), and Masahiko Ogami (78) manned the team. Second runner-up was the team of Willy Suarez (74), Antonio Pineda (73), Eric Borja (67), and Takenobu Nakada (77) with 291 strokes.

Team AAA topped division C with 276 strokes. Ben Li (70), Jojo Ong (72), Jack Limyutian (65), and Atsushi Kawasaki (69) were the members of the team.

First runner-up for the category was the team of Christopher Kokseng (64), Florencio Manglapus (65), Charlie Go (69), and Kunio Oguni (84) with a total of 282. Second runner-up was the group of Ruben Almendras (71), Chito Misa (73), Pio Go (70), and Masanobu Sugawara (75) with 289.

The most exercised team award went to the group of Ben Ebrada, Boy Barcelo, Jun Florita, and Sgosuke Saito with a total of 332 strokes.

The ladies division title went to Eva Hino with a net score of 68 while Rosita Uy finished as runner-up with her net 69.

The ladies event was held last Wednesday.
