Stein Promotions unveils maiden boxing card today

-
Stein Global Sports and Entertainment Promotions Inc. launches its maiden promotion today with the holding of the "Binukbukay sa Carcar" fight card starting at 7:30 pm at the Carcar Sports Complex.

The United States-based promotional outfit is owned and managed by Jewish-American lawyer Andrew M. Stein, who is very interested in managing Filipino boxers and give them opportunities to fight in the US.

"Buoyed by the success of Mandaue Pacquiao, Andrew Stein decided to venture into Philippine boxing and help develop the talents of our potential boxers," said Yoly Tuadles, Stein's RP representative in yesterday's formal launching of Stein Promotions at Baseline Restaurant . "This could be our boxers' window to brighter opportunities in the US."

Tuadles, a practicing accountant in the US, got to know Stein when the latter handled the criminal side of the tax evasion case filed against one of Tuadles' clients in the States.

Tuadles said Stein is willing to assist any fighter who will sign up with him in obtaining the necessary paperwork to enter the US to train or fight. Stein will also provide other necessary assistance such as housing, training, and allowance.

"This promotion in Carcar would be our initial step in scouting for potential boxers," said Tuadles. "We are very thankful to Mr. Stein because of his trust and confidence in the capability of the Filipinos to excel in the field of boxing."

Tuadles clarified though that in joining the wagon of Philippine boxing trade, they are helping not competing with other boxing stables in Cebu in presenting a more lucrative career option for Pinoy ringsters.

"I would like to make it clear to Cebu boxing promoters and managers that we are here not as their competitor but their partner. This is the reason why we are tying up with Wakee Salud. Hopefully we could also do that with other Cebu boxing managers," said Tuadles.

Tuadles said Stein will surely be of big help to aspiring Pinoy boxers because he has strong boxing connections in US and Mexico.

Tuadles assured all the parties they will be dealing with in the future that they will always be transparent in all their transactions and that Stein is a straightforward man who abhors backdoor negotiations.

Meanwhile, explosive ring action awaits the Carcaranons as RP No.2 flyweight contender Jojo Bardon vows to knock out RP ranked No.8 115-pounder Rolly Mandahinog of Bukidnon in the sixth round when they slug it out in the main event of Stein Promotions' inaugural offering billed as "Bunukbukay sa Carcar."

"I don't think he will last six rounds against me," said Bardon.

But Mandahinog was also in fighting mood saying that "if he (Bardon) will knock me out in six rounds, I will try me best to stop him within five rounds.

In the supporting bouts, RP No.1 welterweight contender Ramil Caballes takes on the second-ranked Boy Nituda of Bukidnon, while Cebu's Jerope Mercado and Cagayan de Oro's Ricky Escaner clash in the other eight-rounder brawl.

Seeing action in the preliminary bouts are Carcar's homegrown talent Octavio Aleonar against Iloilo City's Jomar Labiogo, Cebu City's Elvin Lano against Abner Llanasa of Mambajao, Camiguin, and Lapu-Lapu City's Gedion Amba against Mandaue City's Jerome Bontog.

Six exciting amateur bouts will spice up the pro card that pit Edmar Tuñacao of J & E Gym against Franklin Undaloc of Barili, Cebu Ronil Caballes of Cebu City versus Bryan Yaswa of Cordova, Cebu, and Jonathan Nacua of Carcar vs. Crisente Cañete of Barili.
